How often should you water the grass?

Watering grass is very dependent on the weather, grass type and soil.

In general, grass should be watered deeply and infrequently, rather than shallowly and often. This encourages deep root growth and helps the grass to be more drought-resistant.

* Cool-season grasses, such as Kentucky bluegrass and fescue, need about 1 inch of water per week.

* Warm-season grasses, such as Bermuda and zoysia, need about 1.5 inches of water per week.

For best results, water your grass in the morning, before the sun gets too hot. This will help to prevent the water from evaporating too quickly.

Here are some additional tips for watering your grass:

* Use a sprinkler that puts out a fine mist, rather than a heavy stream. This will help to prevent the water from running off.

* Water your lawn deeply, until the water has penetrated to a depth of 6 inches.

* Water your lawn less frequently, but for a longer period of time. This will help to encourage deep root growth.

* Avoid watering your lawn in the afternoon or evening, when the sun is hottest. This can cause the water to evaporate too quickly and can lead to drought stress.

* If you have a lot of trees or shrubs on your property, you may need to water your lawn more often. This is because trees and shrubs absorb a lot of water.

By following these tips, you can help your grass to stay healthy and green all summer long.
