Why casts get wet?

Casts get wet because they are made of porous materials, such as plaster of Paris or fiberglass. These materials absorb water, which can cause the cast to become heavy and uncomfortable. Additionally, water can seep into the cast and cause the skin underneath to become irritated or infected.

There are a few things you can do to help keep your cast dry. First, avoid getting it wet in the shower or bath. You can do this by covering the cast with a plastic bag or by using a waterproof cast cover. Second, keep your cast dry when you are swimming or playing in the rain. You can do this by wearing a waterproof cast cover or by using a poncho or umbrella.

If your cast does get wet, it is important to dry it off as soon as possible. You can do this by using a towel or by using a hair dryer on a low setting. If your cast is wet for an extended period of time, it can cause the skin underneath to become irritated or infected. If this happens, you should see your doctor.
