Why wont your skimmer for pool not work?

The most common reason why a pool skimmer won't work is because its basket is clogged with debris, such as leaves, dirt, and insects. This prevents the skimmer from effectively pulling water and debris into the pump system, which can lead to problems with the pool's circulation and filtration system.

To clean a clogged skimmer basket, simply remove the basket from the skimmer and dump out the debris. Rinse the basket thoroughly with a garden hose before replacing it.

Low Water Level

If your pool's water level is too low, the skimmer won't be able to draw in enough water to function properly. Make sure that the water level is at least halfway up the skimmer opening.

Blocked Skimmer Line

The skimmer line is the pipe that connects the skimmer to the pump. If this pipe is blocked, it will prevent the skimmer from sending water to the pump.

To check if the skimmer line is blocked, disconnect it from the skimmer and pump and see if water flows out. If there's no water flow, the line is blocked and you will need to clear it.

Damaged Skimmer

If the skimmer is damaged, it won't be able to function properly. Look for any cracks or holes in the skimmer and repair or replace it as necessary.

Pump Problems

If the pool pump isn't working properly, it won't be able to create the necessary suction to draw water into the skimmer. Make sure that the pump is turned on and check the pump's filter to see if it needs to be cleaned.
