How can you remove hard water build-up from an above ground pool liner and will muriatic acid hurt the liner?

To remove stubborn hard water stains in your above-ground pool liner, follow these steps:

1. Drain Pool Water

Begin by draining about half of the pool's water. Lower the water at least below the level of the stains to facilitate working on the liner above the waterline.

2. Locate the Stains

Identify the areas of hard water buildup around the pool liner. These are typically whitish-gray and feel rough to the touch.

3. Apply the Cleaning Solution

Create a cleaning solution by combining equal parts white vinegar and water. Alternatively, you can use a commercially available hard water stain remover, following the manufacturer's instructions.

4. Apply Cleaning Solution

Apply the cleaning solution directly to the hard water stains. Use a soft sponge or cloth to gently rub the solution into the stains, working in small sections at a time. If the stains are stubborn, allow the solution to sit for a few minutes before scrubbing.

5. Scrub Stains

Using a soft bristle brush, scrub the hard water stains in a circular motion. Continue until the stains start to loosen and fade. Rinse the area thoroughly with clean water after scrubbing.

6. Continue Cleaning

Work in sections, cleaning and rinsing small areas at a time, until all the hard water stains are removed.

7. Refill Pool

Once all the hard water stains are removed, refill the pool to the desired level.

Can muriatic acid hurt the pool liner?

Yes, muriatic acid can damage your pool liner. It is a highly acidic chemical that can cause the liner to deteriorate and become weak. If you use muriatic acid, be sure to dilute it according to the manufacturer's instructions and take care not to splash it on the liner.
