Check the water level: Ensure that the pool water is at least 6-10 inches below the skimmer in order to prevent air from getting into the pump and causing damage.
Attach a hose to the waste outlet. This hose will send water to a safe discharge point, like your backyard.
Open the waste valve. This will open the line from the pool to the discharge point.
Turn the pump back on. The pump will start to drain the swimming pool.
Check and adjust water levels often when draining.
Keep an eye on the swimming pool water level and turn off the pump when it reaches the desired depth.
Turn the pump off.
Set your multiport valve back to the "FILTER" position.
