Why is pool water green but there no algae?

Green pool water is usually caused by algae, but there are other possible causes as well.

One possibility is that the pool water contains high levels of copper. Copper can come from sources such as copper pipes, coins, or jewelry that has been left in the pool. When copper reacts with chlorine, it can create a green colour.

Another possibility is that the pool water has a high pH level. A high pH level can make the water more alkaline, which can cause calcium and magnesium minerals to precipitate out of the water. These minerals can then give the water a green colour.

Finally, it is also possible that the pool water is simply dirty. Dirt and debris can block the filters and chlorinator, which can allow algae and other microorganisms to grow. This can then lead to green pool water.

If you have green pool water, it is important to test the water and determine the cause before taking any corrective action. If the water contains high levels of copper or has a high pH level, you will need to take steps to lower the copper levels or adjust the pH level. If the water is simply dirty, you will need to clean the pool and filters.
