The Do’s And Don’ts Of Swimming Pool Construction

Swimming pool building is serious business. After all, it requires digging a huge hole inside your yard and your wallet. Therefore, if you’re planning to have a pool, it must at the very least seem attractive. Swimming pool construction is one thing that requires effort not just from the builder you’re going to employ but also from you.

If you need a swimming pool and it's your first-time diving into swimming pool construction (heh!), here are several guidelines in making sure your time, effort, and money are spent well.

�DO determine your pool’s look. Will your pool be a no-frills sports center kind pool, or will you be incorporating rocks and plants in the poolside to make it look like a pond? Decide if you want a normal pool (square, rectangular, or circular) or one that has a more irregular shape.

�DO calculate your grounds. You should currently have a concept of how much room your pool needs before you employ a builder. Do you want a swimming pool that consumes most of your backyard or just a part of it? Will your ideal pool fit into the space you have, or are you going to have to downscale a bit?

�DON’T count a lot on your contractor’s opinion, but DO listen to suggestions. It’s still your swimming pool, not theirs. Having said that, builders realize how to make your vision look better (or more possible). Defer for their opinion for things such as better supplies etc., but recognize when to dig your heels.

�DO ask friends or someone you know who had a pool built in the past about good swimming pool construction companies. Inquire about reviews and recommendations. Inquire if there were any concerns encountered and how these were resolved.

�DO evaluate contractors’ websites and look for testimonials and reviews.

�DON’T employ a company without having comments from past customers. We know that this can be hard (specially in places where builders don’t advertise on the web), however if you can’t get a review in print type, at least get a spoken one.

�DON’T hire companies without validating if they’re registered.

�DO place all contracts into writing so you’ll have something to cling on to in case your contractor breaks a contract.

�DO maintain a hands-on strategy to swimming pool construction. You don’t have to be there everyday (particularly if you have work and/or other stuff you have to do), but at least keep a normal presence.

�DO keep track of the pool construction’s progress. Request for explanations to every delays.

�DO record your expenses. So many swimming pool construction projects went over-budget simple since the owner hadn’t tracked the contractor’s expenditures.
