How To Measure Ski Boot Size

Are you planning a ski trip but need to know how to measure ski boot size? In order to get an accurate size, you will need to take in several factors when measuring. These include the length and width of your feet as well as checking to see how the liner, shell, and cuff of the boot fit against your feet and legs.

  • Measuring tape with cm
  • Pencil and paper
  1. Put on ski socks.

  2. Use a pencil and paper to sketch an outline of your foot, while wearing your ski socks.

  3. Measure the outline of your foot using a measuring tape that has centimeters. Measure from your longest toe all the way down to the heel of your foot.

  4. Consult a ski boot manufacturer's size chart. Look for the length of your foot in centimeters (the chart will read mondo centimeters which is the same as regular centimeters) and go across to find your corresponding size ski boot. If your length in centimeters is between ski boot sizes, then you will want to go the next size up.

  5. Measure the width of the outline of your foot at its widest point in millimeters. This will tell you whether you need a narrow boot or a wide one. Generally, anything below 100 mm is considered narrow while anything above 104 mm is considered wide.

  6. Try on ski boots while taking into consideration the cuff of the boot. Bend your knees and see how the boot feels. You don't want the boot feel too flexible, nor do you want it to feel too stiff.

  7. Try on just the shell of the boot (without the inner liner) and consider how the boot feels. There should be no more than 3/4” of space between your heel and the back of the boot.

  8. Try on the liner separately from the shell. You will know that the liner fits properly if your toes barely touch the front of the liner, and your feet aren't stretching out the sides of the liner.
