Tignes Ski Resort Without... Skis?
The areas are Les Boisses, Val Claret, Tignes Le Lac, Tignes le Lavachet, and Les Brevieres. With so much space available to skiers on the slopes, it might start to feel slightly crowded, but never jam-packed with people. But what if you don't ski or snowboard, is it worth going? Will all the activities you can enjoy skiless, certainly!
First of all, Tignes is a charming resort village. While some say Tignes's retro feel adds to its personality, the resort has its eyes firmly on the future and is striving to become a leading Alpine skiing destination. The town has been making improvements to make visitors' stays as enjoyable as possible. It is true that some of the town's residences have seen better days and renovations could be a help, but many of the hotels and buildings are getting makeovers, keeping the look of Tignes hip but with a throwback feel. The town has 20 hotels, fewer than 10 hotel residences, over 11 holiday centers, two holiday clubs, and nearly 75 private and leased-out apartments. In short, you will certainly find wandering about close to the accommodation you have selected and through the village very pleasant.
Then, there are enough outdoor activities to keep you busy! Dog sledding, ice-skating, hiking and snowshoeing will please the unhurried vacationers. Those who would like an adrenalin rush will also be served. To get your feet off the ground climbing, for one, is possible in many locations, whether you prefer waterfall, ice or rock climbing. Paragliding or helicopter rides are also a very efficient ways to get your feet off the ground! Karting on ice, snowmobiling are to try if you are into motor sports, and snow mountain biking or ice diving are two a bit more unusual winter sports available in Tignes.
When weather is really not cooperative, Tignes also has many indoor options. The Tignespace has courts to play volleyball, tennis, handball, football or basketball, one climbing wall with about 20 courses, two squash rooms with heated locker rooms and one ping-pong room. The aquatic complex "Le Lagon" comprises one 25m pool, one play-pool with slides, bubble bed, cascades, etc., one paddling pool, one wellness center (with hammams, Jacuzzis, saunas, etc.) and a fitness center. For quieter time, there is even a cinema playing the latest Hollywood blockbusters.
If shopping is your thing you take some time to go in some of Tignes's more than 125 shops! All services you might need are also readily available in town, such as several banks, post offices, petrol stations, and even churches of different denominations. If you have an urgent need of opening a retirement account, or if a confession is required, you will get what you need. In short, no matter what you are looking for in a ski resort destination, Tignes has it!
And to end your day nicely, forget what you might have heard before, Tignes is bursting with aprs-ski options. The town has successfully shaken off its past image as a quiet resort and has added some body-shakin' nightlife. Years ago in Tignes you could go out to just a few restaurants and bars, but today you will find packed bars, overflowing eateries, bumping discothques and hot clubs.
If you forget your skis next time you go to Tignes, don't worry, you can still have a great time!
