Are Colorado Skiing Resorts Overvalued Than They Actually Are?

2016/7/23 15:06:12

There are some very good ski resorts in Colorado. But the question to be examined is whether Colorado skiing resorts get extra publicity than what they deserve. In this question it should also be looked at the fact that what these resorts offer skiing wise as contrasting to how good the restaurants and hotels are. Colorado skiing resorts offer discount on lift tickets.

Skier days are more in Colorado than any other state in the country. What could be the reason behind Colorado getting so many skiers? Let's take a glance at some factors.

Population

Colorado has a bigger population than other big skiing states like Montana, Wyoming and Vermont. But if populace was the cause for Colorado's huge ski crowds than California would certainly hold the name for a good number of skier days for a particular state.

Snowfall

Most skiing areas in Colorado get between 300"-350" of snow per season. This is a decent amount but definitely not sufficient to make it the powder-paradise that a variety of advertising materials would have you consider. 300" per year is something that the best ski resorts of the East Coast get. When you start looking at a few of the other renowned ski destinations you start seeing where the actual powder paradises are. Utah that claims to have 'The Greatest Snow on Earth,'. The place receives over 500" of snow annually. The West Coast also beats Colorado for annual snowfall. Washington, although not commonly thought of as a main skiing state, too, laid claim to have received the largest amount of snowfall in a single spell when Mt Baker received over 1000" of snow in 1998-1999.

Terrain

Terrain parks, groomers and beginner terrain can be found wherever there is enough snow. Few of Colorado skiing resorts are known for leading terrain, such as Aspen, and Crested Butte but the most popular resorts in Colorado might not always have the same quality of terrain. And when you compare to ski resorts like Jackson Hole Squaw Valley or even Snowbird-those of which constantly rank as the top resorts, there is not much that can be compared.

This is by far a subjective analysis. If you wish to get to know more of these, TheMountainsUSA.com can be a very useful address. You may get all your doubts cleared and might even opt to spend you winter skiing away in the snow of Colorado. Colorado skiing resorts might even offer you more than what you have been expecting from them!
