Ski Breckenridge, Colorado

2016/7/23 15:04:56

Breckenridge Ski Resort is located just 2 hours west of Denver International Airport and easily accessible via I-70. The resort averages 300 inches of snow and 300 days of clear blue skies per year and is set amidst a town rich in mining history with authentic buildings that have stood for over 100 years.

The ski area is comprised of four peaks (seven, eight, nine, and ten), a base elevation of 9,600 feet, summit elevation of 12,998 feet, and 3,398 foot vertical drop. Their 30 lifts provide access to 155 trails with excellent terrain diversity for all levels of skiing ability. Breckenridge has exceptionally well groomed slopes, an abundant amount of easy and medium grade cruisers, and plenty of expert and back country skiing to satisfy extreme skiers. The best steeps are located on Peak Ten. Peak Seven is very mellow and best suited for beginners.

Most of the chutes and bowls are easily accessible via The Imperial Express Super Chair but additional hiking is required to reach the Imperial Bowl and Lake Chutes coming off the 12,998 foot Peak Eight summit. If it's a powder day - make sure you ski the chutes! They're awesome!

For phenomenal steeps with plenty of room for speed, check out the expert slopes on Peak Ten. It's the best kept secret at Breck, even on busy days!

The town has a rich mining history, a friendly local vibe, abundant lodging options, and hundreds of spots that make up the best dining, shopping, and nightlife one would expect in a ski town of this caliber. You won't find any luxury spas around town though, only day spas. The Alpine Spa & Salon has a nice day spa setup. It's very clean and the staff was very accommodating.

If you're looking for a great low key seafood restaurant with a fun atmosphere, you'll want to visit the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. The Gumbo soup is out of this world! The Crown Cafe is a really neat coffee house on Main Street, and The Whale’s Tail serves up delicious seafood surrounded in an atmosphere surrounded by nautical antiques in the warm and casual dining room. For the best ribs in town, try The Salt Creek Steakhouse. And for an easy going inexpensive breakfast place next to the Peak Nine Gondola, check out The Cool River Coffee House.

The biggest downside to this great ski resort is the need to traverse four peaks in order to enjoy different types of terrain, which chews up a fair amount of time, especially if lift lines are long on a busy weekend! Oh, and they don't offer free parking!
