Skiing Goes Green With Whitepod Switzerland

2016/7/23 15:03:02

Switzerland might be known for its luxurious wooden chalets, haute cuisine and "chocolate box" alpine villages, but for those looking for the ultimate green skiing experience, there is a new player on the piste map.

Whitepod is a company that offers an eco-friendly alternative to the traditional ski chalet experience. A funky winter retreat offering snow sports, massages, clean green living and local cuisine, the Whitepod resort is only accessible by skis or snowshoes. At the heart of the Whitepod experience is the Whitepod Camp consisting of nine dome shaped pod-like tents pitched on wooden platforms at an altitude of 1400m at the foot of the Dents du Midi, a range with peaks over 3000 meters tall.

There are three types of pod to cater for different group sizes and tastes. The expedition pod is a 25 square meter canvas abode which sleeps up to 2 guests in a double bed. A wood burning stove combined with the latest in insulation technology keeps the living space nice and cosy, and clear glass windows allow views of the night sky whilst you're snuggled up in the organic bedding. There is even a terrace with lounge chairs for you to take in the stunning views.

The Whitepod resort is situated in the heart of the Swiss Alps and was created to provide a completely different winter holiday whilst minimising negative impact on the local environment and utilising local resources where possible. Not for the night owls - you'll find no noisy bars, no busy streets and no crowds. Instead, visitors can just enjoy the solitude of the camp and the incredible setting.

However, just because the Whitepod is far from the bustle indicative of ski resort towns, it doesn't mean you won't eat well. Traditional food is prepared by resident chefs, who use local produce to whip up fantastic dishes. And you can forget queuing for busy pistes because the Whitepod Camp has its own ski private ski resort, serviced by two ski lifts which offer 600m of descent - night and day.

Those wishing to experience the Whitepod way can take flights to Geneva and from there catch a local train, bus or arrange a private transfer with the Whitepod company.

So, if you're looking for a green winter trip or a snow sports holiday which is totally different from any other, Switzerland's Whitepod resort is the cool place to head this winter season.
