An Eventful Summer 2009 Ahead In Les 2 Alpes

The choice of adventures includes hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, paragliding, swimming and rafting. And that list is not an exhaustive one! Many special events, sports or cultural, also take place in Les 2 Alpes during the warmer months of the year and, depending on your interests, some of them are not to be missed!

The "Mondial du VTT Free Raid Classic VTT Mag" takes place from June 18th to June 21st, and welcomes all kinds of mountain bike enthusiasts. Exhibitors include of course bicycle manufacturer but also photo equipment distributors and travel agencies specialized in extreme sports. The four days covered by the Mondial are full of comprised of exhibitions, bike shows, bike races and if you get inspired, you can get your bike out and try one of the new itineraries that go from 3200 meters to 700 meters. Some of the itineraries are especially designed for kids.

One month later, from July 17th to the 19th, the now famous Mountain of Hell, organized by the Choucas Bikers team, will take place on the mountain bike tails of Les 2 Alpes. This event brings together amateurs and pros with the main goal of enjoying the freeride potential of the area in a friendly atmosphere. It takes the form of a mountain biking downhill event, open to all with a practice day and two days of competition. The downhill Derby is limited to 400 racers so register soon, and the glacier offers a 2500 meters of vertical drop over 25km.

You can participate in the Fte des Foins (hay celebration day) on August 1st. It’s in a party atmosphere that all, clothed with traditional costumes, take part in the event. Pastoral re-enacting and outdoor mass, carts and herds parade, mower demonstration, folkloric music and traditional nut oil making are some of the activities taking place on that day. A typical mountain meal is served, like every year, to end the day beautifully for all actors and visitors of Les 2 Alpes.

The "Enduro sries " are not to miss because quite spectacular. During one full weekend of race, the riders are alone, competing against the chronometer they have to fulfill 10 races, representing around 10 km of downhill in total, over 3 different tracks called "bordered tracks". It takes place August 15th and 16th.

The week end of August 22nd and 23rd is held the "Marco Pantani Memorial Cycling" event, in the memory of the winner of the 15th stage of the Tour de France in 1998. Open to all, the races are no walk in the park and experienced cyclists will find a challenge at their scale. On Saturday 22nd, a 9 km time trial is taking place on Barrage du chambon and the next day, a sportive race of 164 km of sportive race will take the cyclists to the Col d’Ornon , the Col de Parquetout and the Alpe du Grande Serre before finishing at the top of Les Deux Alpes.

After all this, why not a refreshing activity! During summer, swimming in Les 2 Alpes can be done either indoors or outdoors, and the resort has four swimming facilities to choose from. Should the visitors desire a closer commune with nature, mountain lakes are close by. For rafting, the visitors can rent the services of one of the many companies onsite that offers a white water adventures.
