Question
Hi Dave
While I know that in wrestling that the competitiors know who will be winning before the match starts, does this also happen in NXT?
When the rookies start the season, do they know who will be winning the competition (especially for season 1 where there was no audience vote) or is it worked out as the season goes along depending on their abilities etc?
Also, does the "fan vote" truly count for 50% of the vote for each expulsion? If so, what would the WWE do if someone like Michael McGillicutty or Kaval who they seem to be quite big on got voted off?
Lastly, I've been hearing for ages that Rey is meant to be taking time off to have surgery but he keeps on winning No. 1 contendors matches etc and is now tied up in this new angle with Kane. Do you know if he actually wants to get his surgery and all these angles are being pushed on him by the WWE or if he has given up on the idea of getting surgery?
Thanks
Answer
Hi Tony. Thanks for the question.
1. The NXT matches are scripted just like any other match. The wrestlers know who is going to win and lose. However, I think the matches are scripted in a sense that the losers of the match aren't getting totally buried, meaning the match isn't completely one sided.
I doubt the NXT competitors know who is going to win the competition, although I have a feeling that the end result of Season 1, the Nexus, may have been planned by WWE management all along, even if the competitors didn't know it. I think the way they were elminated may have had something to do with how WWE management perceived their overall talent.
As far as the fan voting for Season 2 goes, I have no idea if it's legit or not. If I had to guess, I would say no, only because WWE management knows who they want to win, and they can manipulate the vote to make that happen. It's the same with PPV's like Cyber Sunday. WWE knows what matches they want on the PPV, and they can manipulate the vote to make it happen. There might be a surprise in there from time to time to make it look legit, but WWE will control the vote to do what they want.
If the voting is really legit and one of the favorites gets voted off, it's not really a big deal. WWE can just have the wrestler go back to FCW, and eventually sign him to the main roster.
2. Rey is still planning to take time off. From what I've been hearing, his injury is something that needs surgery, but it can't really get any worse then what it is now. Basically, it's an injury that he can work through, at least for the time being.
I think the Undertaker being injured delayed him from taking time off as well. I don't think WWE wanted two of their bigger names on Smackdown out at the same time, if at all possible.
I'm sure he'll be taking time off at some point. It's just a matter of when.
Thanks again for the questions. Let me know if you have anything else.
Have a great night.
