Pro Wrestling path.......
Question
Hi, my name is Nathaniel and i am 18 years old.I live in toronto, canada. I begun watching pro wrestling in 2006-2007 but in that short time period, it truly has become my passion. I decided a while ago that i want to become a pro wrestler. I have been doing some research, and i was told that pro wrestlers dont make much money, so i am currently at ryerson university getting a degree. This program will run for 4 years. My plan is to go to Lance Storm's wrestling school when i graduate. Lately, however, i have been doubting if i want to wait that long. My question to you is, should i wait out the 4 years and go to lance storm's school? Or should i train to be a wrestler while in university and wrestle part time? If i were to train while in university, i was thinking of going to rob fuego's squared circle training school, because it seemed like one of the premier schools in toronto. But, if you are able to find me a better traning school in toronto or anywhere around that area (such as the GTA) that would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Answer
Hello Nathaniel,
Squared Circle Training is definitely one of best options around.
There are a few different aspects to this question, as I see it. I think that in making your decision, you should be guided by the answers to a few questions you ask yourself. Starting training now is good if you do it successfully, since you'll be doing something similar when you are doing other work alongside pro wrestling, but you have to weigh up whether you are sufficiently prepared to go down that road right this instant, or if you could better position yourself for success before starting.
Firstly, how is your conditioning? Not just muscle mass but cardio as well. Actually, cardio is probably more important to have when starting in pro wrestling schools since numerous schools give participants conditioning tests, which has more of a cardio aspect. If you have worked out in the gym but have focused only on certain muscle groups and/or haven't doing enough in the way of cardio, it might be better to improve your conditioning some more before starting training. This is more the case if several other questions indicate there is more you can do to prepare yourself.
Are you involved in any clubs or activities at University that allow, or outside of University, for that matter, that allow you to improve the entertainment side of pro wrestling? If you aren't taking advantage of any drama or debating opportunities, they can be greatly beneficial. In addition, networking skills (promoting yourself and communicating to others) is very important in pro wrestling. You can develop these skills in University as well.
An advantage of doing so while studying compared to pro wrestling is that in University you can meet a lot more people then you can in pro wrestling training. You don't need to talk about pro wrestling to all you meet- but if you can develop leadership and negotiating/marketing skills and are comfortable in talking to people you haven't met before, this is of great help. In addition, in pro wrestling school self-promotion is taught, but you aren't putting in practice as you might if you might be doing if you are involved in a production, for example.
Its one of those 慸uh?questions, but would you be able to put in time and effort to both? From what you have said, you would give pro wrestling your all, but would pro wrestling training mean you wouldn抰 be able to focus on your studies? In a similar vein, if you start training now, would this put added stress on you to get part-time work, or are you financially well-off enough to be able to seek out appropriate work without desperately needed to get immediate work?
Basically, consider if you are taking full advantage of University to assist you in developing the skills, knowledge and contacts to assist you in pro wrestling. If you are, then starting training as soon as you can is a better idea. In any case, if you desperately want to start training now, provided you are in good enough shape for it and are ready to put in the time and effort, go for it- otherwise you might be distracted in your studies by thoughts o starting pro wrestling training.
Good luck in your future endeavours.
