Undertakers wrestlemania record
Question
Since wrestling is a scripted one, then why undertakers's
wrestlemania record makes the crowd ecstatic? Whats so special
about the streak if it is a scripted one? Does all the
audience unaware of the script works?
Answer
Hi Dalwin. Thanks for the question.
I think it's pretty common knowledge these days that pro wrestling is scripted. It's not like it was decades ago where the wrestling promotions tried to keep everything a secret. Back then, for example, heels and faces were told by the promoters not to travel together, because they didn't want the fans to see feuding wrestlers getting along together in public. These days, I read reviews from live events, and the reporter mentions where wrestlers 'a' and 'b' show up to the arena together, yet they are feuding on TV.
I would say the only fans who don't know if it's scripted for sure are younger kids, and I'm guessing that even they have their doubts about it as well.
As far as the Undertaker's streak goes, I think there is several reasons why it's such big issue with fans.
Even though the matches are scripted, the streak has just gotten so long now that a lot of fans wonder if the this will be the WrestleMania that it ends. There have been several WrestleMania's where it wasn't necessarily a given that the Undertaker was going win, especially the last couple of years against Shawn Michaels.
Another reason is that a lot fans think that if the Undertaker does lose at WrestleMania, that he will retire. There a lot of fans convinced that his last match will occur at WrestleMania, and the streak will end, resulting in his retirement. Of course, there are also those who think that he will never lose at WrestleMania, and he will retire with the streak intact.
Again, even though the matches are scripted, it's how they are scripted and play out. The Undertaker's two matches against Michaels were considered by many to be the match of the year, if not a couple of the greatest matches ever.
Finally, there's just the respect part of it as well. The Undertaker has been around for a long time, and he just has the overall respect of the fans, whether you like him or not. For whatever reason, I've never actually been a huge fan of his, but I respect the hell of out him.
Thanks again for the question. Let me know if you have anything else.
Have a great night!
