R-Truth
Question
Hi Dave
How do u do!
Is R-Truth gonna be punished by WWE after his mess-up? Though I am not his fan, and I don't understand why he is in the Chamber at all, will it not be wrong if one mistake ends up killing his push. After all, its a LIVE event, and mistakes can and would happen all the time. Its not like he broke somebody's neck.
Also, if you list some of the similar screw-ups that'll be great.
Thanks.
Answer
Hi Varun. Thanks for the question. I am doing well, and hope you are too.
I hope he doesn't get punished, but with WWE you never know. I've read where Vince McMahon was pretty mad about the situation, since the purpose of the Truth/Mason Ryan match was to get heat on Ryan. Instead, the crowd was more into letting Truth hear about his screw-up.
I'm sure Vince let Truth hear about it, but I can't really see him being punished, at least nothing severe anyway. To be honest, Truth has been losing a lot of his matches lately anyway, so I don't really know what else WWE could do to punish him more, unless they work the screw-up into a storyline or something.
This is not the first time this has happened, although I can't recall any particular instance on live TV where a wrestler forgot what city he was in. I've heard stories about wrestlers forgetting what city they were in during house shows. I'm actually surprised it doesn't happen more often, considering all the traveling WWE does.
Here's some other screw-ups that I can remember off-hand:
1. One of the funniest things I ever saw in pro wrestling came during a live WCW Clash of the Champions. Ric Flair had an interview segment at the time called "Flair For the Gold". During this segment, Flair was interviewing Sting about regarding a mystery partner he had for an upcoming PPV (the match was Sting, Davey Boy Smith, Dustin Rhodes, and the mystery partner vs. Sid Vicious, Vader, and Harlem Heat).
Anyway, during the interview Harlem Heat and Sid came out and demanded Sting tell them who the mystery partner was (it was Fred Ottman, better known Tugboat and Typhoon in WWE). All Sting said was that it would "Shock the world", in reference to Ottman's new gimmick, The Shockmaster.
At this point, the Shockmaster was supposed to make a dramatic entrance through a gimmicked wall. As he was busting through the wall, he tripped over a board holding the wall in place, and fell to the floor. A helmet he was wearing flew off his head, and scrambled to put it back on. The other wrestlers could barely contain themselves, and were struggling not to laugh.
2. There's been several instances where a wrestlers mic won't work, and it's funny when they get all frustrated.
Another instance with a mic has been a couple of times when Mr. Kennedy...or Mr. Anderson now I guess, has a mic drop down from the ceiling. He missed catching it a few times, and covered for it by saying he meant to do that.
3. I remember a couple of instances involving the Rock and Mick Foley.
One was during an in ring promo where the Rock's sunglasses fell off, and Foley picked them up gave them back to him.
Another time was when Foley said something to the Rock, (I can't remember what), and he started cracking up.
4. Of course you always have the missed moves, or when a wrestler forgets a spot during a match. Sometimes it's so obvious that the fans notice, and they start a "you bleeped up" chant to the wrestler.
5. When Bobby Heenan was announcing for WCW, he let a curse word slip on live TV. Brian Pillman came up behind Heenan and grabbed him, to which Heenan asked "what the bleep are you doing?" Heenan had a bad neck at the time, and he supposedly was very cautious about it.
Thanks again for the question. Let me know if you have anything else.
Have a great day!
Dave
