how to cut a promo

QUESTION: right nice to meet ya i have bin a wrestling fan for nearly to decades iv always wanted 2 work in the business its always bin a dream of mine as most guys get in for the fame fortune and the girls for me its all about the fanbase if i was 2 make ?5 draw money but yet haves a few thousand people screaming for more from me the money wouldn't even come into it would like a gimmick (hey you bin paid yep but yet it wud just be gimmick money just to build on the character
but the main concerns i have is my weight is a major issue in my head which is killin my so called confidence so i wish to address that but also i do indeed suck at promos and thats the real main reason i am here i really would like 2 know how to cut them it sounds ridiculous i know but even though i have watched wrestling all these years i cant seem 2 nail them maybe i have not found my gimmick yet is there certain bullet points 2 assatain so on so forth so please if you can help them i would really appreciate this
my character keep seeing in my head is either forsaken or Lucifer just because how my live as gone down the dark path but yet i dont want 2 be a heel atleast not yet i need the character to feel some compassion from the fans so im thinking of a gimmick of were my parents were in a mental hospital due to some psychopathic shit sent them wrong way but it didnt affect me until i hear news they were killed by the same society that put them there for there saftey like mind boggling shit but yet seems 2 real 2 be fake  thats what i want and i realised i wanted to  do shoot promos if you will when i seen the cm punk shoot live on raw i never really knew what promo i wanted 2 assign myself to then once i watched tht i realised i want 2 make them as reals as possible but how can interpret it in everything that i do or what im thinkin is that should be the major story behind my gimmick

ANSWER: Well what most people don't know is, WWE does script a lot of their stuff where talent just has to memorize lines, but the top guys write their own stuff or go improvisational. Like CM Punk for instance was improving what he said in his shoot promo a few weeks ago on RAW. He just has the ability to know what fans want to hear without going over the line.

Gimmicks really are overdone nowadays. Only top gimmicks are still around anyway, others faded off and the new age guys you see have a small gimmick, but it's mostly them. John Cena if you remember had a Boston rapper gimmick, now you just see Cena out there being himself. WWE loves that, they love the real.

But the issue is that gimmicks can get you over, but you have to live out that gimmick which is very hard nowadays to do. Undertaker can't be The Deadman 24/7, just doesn't happen. Santino can't be the Italian funny man all of the time, he's actually Canadian if you can believe it.

So, gimmicks have halted and the only one's you see are one's that can work in real life situations because of the enormous popularity Wrestling has seen.

Doing a promo of course has to work with your gimmick. But, you don't always have to be "real" to be interesting or entertaining. It's all about the content and delivery. Personally, I speak very well but I've taken Public Speaking classes and do both Radio and TV. Needless to say, I can talk very well. But I've had practice.

Even I would be a bit afraid of working a live crowd and many wrestlers do too. So it's not a big deal.

But the experience factor is how some guys are as good as they are. They don't wake up one morning and start wrestling school, then do the best promo you've ever heard, it just doesn't happen.

So it's gonna take time to be great at it. Dont worry too much regarding it.

Now, height and weight are some issues many newbies have when they come in. Lets face it. not all people when they start wrestling are going to be John Cena or Randy Orton types. Some are, but very few.

You can work on weight by eating right and exercising, but height is something you just can't get great at.

Some kids I know of, actually were given HGH(Human Growth Hormone) to help them grow because it was estimated the kids would be 4 foot or smaller, now they are around 6 foot. It speeds up the process but makes you able to grow. But if you've crossed the 10 to 12 boundary, this cannot be done. Plus it's not a good idea for any kid to get it done unless they are estimated to be very small. So don't look into it. Only do so if you have a surgery, like on your neck or spine. This is a key area which can be repaired slowly with HGH, which is why guys like Kurt Angle have used it.

Now, the gimmick you came up with could very well work on the Indy scene, but in mainstream it would suffer. WWE would never take it into consideration and I doubt TNA would either. ROH may, but it's doubtful too.

You being kind of psycho would work, as it's just you being this. But having a back story like that is unneeded, but a good thought nonetheless. No offense, but I just wanted to make sure you knew that.

It could work in an Indy environment, but never would work in WWE. They wouldn't allow it because of how dark it is. That's not to say it's bad, I'm just saying programming wise it's a little much for them. Also, some would want you to be a big monster type of guy to do this type of gimmick too, as Abyss, undertaker, Kane and others all had something similar and were monster type of guys that helped the gimmick work. So there in lies another issue.

Again, not to say it's bad by any means, because it's not. But the darkness and how it would work overall is sketchy
