Title Changes
Question
Hi Dave. In regards to Alberto Del Rio winning the title at Hell in a Cell on Sunday, what are your feelings toward the titles changing hands as often as they do? It's not just in WWE, but TNA as well. It seems like the titles change hands at least every couple of months lately.
Also, I've some of your past answers where you asked if certain wrestlers would go on to be World Champion. When Mark Henry was brought up, you said you didn't think he ever would be. Were you surprised he won the title, and what do you think changed in regards to him seemingly winning it out of nowhere.
Answer
Hi Tom. Thanks for the question.
1. I don't really like the titles changing hands as often as they do. I just think it cheapens the title, and from a storyline point of view, it doesn't make much sense to me a lot of the time. Why did WWE have Cena win the title from Del Rio, only to have him lose it to him again right away? I don't understand the logic behind that.
I'm not saying we need to have the champions hold the title for a long period of time like Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair did in the 80's, but it would be nice to see someone have longer than a 2 month reign.
2. I don't think anybody really saw this coming out of Mark Henry. He was nothing more than a mid card talent at best, and was basically lost in the shuffle.
He finally found the right gimmick, and one that is totally believable. It does kind of baffle me that it took WWE so long to give him this gimmick, but credit Henry with taking the ball and running with it. He's been awesome, and hopefully he has a lengthy title reign. Whomever ends up beating him is going to be in line for a big push as well, assuming it's someone other then the usual characters.
Thanks again for the question. Let me know if you have anything else.
Have a great day!
Dave
