Pro Wrestling School

Question
QUESTION: Hey Joe!

I'm a huge wrestling fan and plan to wrestle. Here's the problem though...I live in Colorado and was planning on going to IWF The Butcher Shop but found out they are now closed... that was the ONLY wrestling school in the state and now it's gone. I need to find another school that has a great reputation that will give me my moneys worth.

I've been thinking about OVW but not sure. Would that be a good or bad idea? I would really appreciate your help Joe.

ANSWER: Yeah, I heard about IWF. Sucks for the area.

OVW is a good area learn wrestling. The thing is, it's to me, not in touch with what wrestling is today. They were once a WWE developmental territory before WWE moved everyone to FCW in Tampa, FL. Now, OVW kind of just sits in Kentucky and still does well. It just doesn't teach as well as it used to.

They can easily teach some basics and what not. Maybe some specialties. But you'll need to extend learning your advanced things somewhere else. As far as learning basics and things like that, OVW would be good. Especially if you're just now getting into wrestling

QUESTION: Yeah, I'm pretty bummed about the IWF thing.

Is there any other good schools you can recommend? My heart is still set on going to wrestling school. Just need to find another one.

ANSWER: Well OVW is good, but realistically, you'd need to know how far outside Colorado you wish to go. If you can safely say you could be in any state, there are tons of schools that can be terrific. But if you wish to simply stay close to home, there are very few in the surrounding Colorado area that I'd personally recommend. OVW is one I would recommend, but mainly for it's solid basics training.

QUESTION: It doesn't really matter what state. Close to home or not, I'm open to anything.

Answer
Well, there are many throughout the US.

Ring of Honor has a terrific school with it.

Can-Am Wrestling School has a terrific background and still is good.

Harley Race's School is very very good. As is Dory Funk's School.

All 3 of these schools are spread throughout the US.

You can look up the top 10 Pro-Wrestling Schools in the US and find the best one that fits you. Realistically, the best schools for some are the one's who work well for the trainee. Such as styles they train, where they're located, who teaches the school, etc.

The only school you'll hear of that you need to stay away from is FCW. That is WWE's developmental territory. Yes, they teach well and have WWE ties. But, you have to pay high rates if you're not under a developmental deal.

It's best to go to FCW later on if the WWE deal comes, rather than going to train there and dropping 3K every 6/7 months.

Going to those other schools I mentioned are good for you and will hook you up with Indy promotions around the area and throughout the US. Which will get you experience and name recognition.

You could always go to Canada too if you think it's best. Ton of good schools there too, as well as in the UK and Japan.
