Question
i have been wanting to get this question answered for years was Hulk Hogan one of the reasons why WCW was killed off?
Answer
Hi Devan. Thanks for the question.
That is kind of hard to say. Hogan did have a lot of influence in WCW, and I'm sure he used his political power to have some decisions go his way. However, there were so many factors that led to WCW going out of business that I don't really think it's fair to blame Hogan.
You could spend all day coming up with a list of bad decisions that were made in WCW, but the bottom line is the one thing that really killed WCW was that they didn't have a TV outlet at the end.
If you remember, Eric Bischoff had a deal in place to buy WCW, but the new head of AOL-Time Warner decided he didn't want pro wrestling on any of his stations. Without a TV deal in place, WCW was basically worthless, which is why WWE was able to buy them so cheaply. Who knows what would have happened if Bischoff was able to get the deal to go through?
Thanks again for the question. Let me know if you have anything else.
Have a great night!
