RE: heel persona
Question
iam training and starting to really develop my heel character. do you have any advice on taunts and other ways such as actions and reactions as well as entrances to really sell myself as a cocky, slightly psycho heel.
also, what colours are best for this type of persona?
Answer
Sorry for the late response Matt.
When developing a heel character, it all depends on what type of character you think you can do. If you think you can be the cocky heel, you have to be able to back up what you say a lot of the time.
Take Dolph Ziggler for instance, as cocky of a heel as it comes. But he goes in the ring and puts on a show for the fans, and shows how good he is. Which makes that cockiness worth something.
The psycho heels are the toughest to do, especially if you are on the Indy scene. These people are the one's who end up in the crazy matches and usually it could take years of your career. Even being slightly nuts, you'd end up doing these tougher matches more likely than not just to be able to sell your character as a nutball. Look at Jeff Hardy for example. He didn't talk like he was a crazy guy, but he did matches or acted on his entrance that he marched to a different beat than others. Which is kind of the gimmick you'd be doing as the slightly psycho heel. That being said, look at what all Jeff ended up doing. If you can handle that, go for it.
Look at Mick Foley who was slightly psycho. These men always ended up doing the crazy stuff that no one else wanted to do.
The best thing to do, pick between which you'd like to do more----cocky or psycho. You cannot do both as you cannot invest the time and effort into trying to be both. You must do one or the other to truly stand out. Those who try to mix in several characters in one end up looking bad more times than not. They try to hard and it comes off as that.
Obviously the heely things to do are winning in a controversial way. Also, interacting with fans on the outside, especially singling out a certain person, can add to the heel persona. Picking on those smaller can be a heel thing to do. Also, going after women and trying to hurt them can really get a reaction. You never really would, as a face would stop you. But, you just showing that you'd do such a thing would get heat from people watching.
There is really no color wheel for heels. It can be any color really. However, the popular one's seem to be black and red. More so darker colors are the one's that end up being used. But Ziggler for instance, uses pink a lot. So, all in what the character is really
