Good day,
name is Jenny and I am working on a project for my Information Technology class.  I was hoping that you might help me.  My research question is: What is the most popular sport?? Part of my research involves finding experts on the Internet.  I would really appreciate you answering a few questions for me.  I will take the information you provide me, compare it with what others have said and with other research findings, make some conclusions about my question, and then create a Web site.  
You need to be aware that I may be using any information you provide me on my Web site, but that I will keep your name confidential.  My Web site should be published by the middle of January and will be available on our school Web site (www.cmsweb.ca).

As you consider which sport is the most popular you must consider several variables that will affect popularity and the size of your considered group.  One would be the total number of athletes performing that sport If you are looking at the entire world then soccer is the most popular sport because it is played all over the world at many age levels and it requires very little equipment.  A ball and a level playing ground.

Two very popular sports because you can play them late into life are golf and tennis.

If you view a sport in terms of the passion of its followers then any sport is the most popular to its fans.  Wrestling is my favorite sport but not because a lot of people perform it, most people can't.  It requires a lot of work, dedication, discipline, strength and courage.  I like it because it represents a magnificent parallel to life and the experiences that create success in life like overcoming adversity, rising above your own limitations of skill, opportunity or personal situation.  Wrestling allows everyone to compete, men and women and all sizes because of the weight requirements for competition.

I would suggest that you consider the criteria that you are using to determine which sport is the most popular.  That will lead you to better determinations.  And you might find that the answers to your research surprise you.
