styles of wrestling
Question
First: thank you for your reply to my previous question.
Question; What is the difference between freestyle, high school/college wrestling and folkstyle wrestling?

Answer
The object of the contest is the same in all three styles; take your opponent of his feet and pin his shoulders to the mat.
The points are scored differently; folkstyle, also known as high school wrestling, college or collegiate wrestling. Is more of a control game. You score by controlling your opponent on the way to the pin. USA is the only country in the world to wrestle this style.
The international styles are Freestyle and Greco-Roman.
Freestyle is the current variation of the old "'catch as catch can" style of wrestling. You score for the throw, you score for the move, the launch, the exposure. Points are scored faster. A fall is a touch of both shoulders to the mat. In Folkstyle the fall is called when you hold your opponent's shoulders in continuous contact with the mat for two seconds.
Greco is similar to Freestyle with one exception; you only use the upper body. You can not attack legs or use legs other than supporting your own weight. Points are score for throws and exposure of the back. The fall is a touch fall.
I hope that helps.
