Moves for tall skinny wrestlers.
Question
QUESTION: What are some moves that would be useful to compliment my height. I wrestle in high school and im a sopohomore currently.
ANSWER: Brian, the most important element for tall wrestlers especially, is your ability to keep a good low stance that you can protect as well as maneuver well from. I would suggest a series of moves from the neutral position starting with an "unstoppable" over & under tie headlock throw.By unstoppable, I mean that if your opponent allows you at any time to secure this tie-up, you will convert the move 99% of the time. Also incorporate duck-unders, a good slide-by or shuck, a heel-pick to either side, short arm drags to a knee-pick single, or a fake single shot to a nice barrel-roll. Since you are tall, most opponents will shoot on your long legs, so I would recommend a nice short offense, and make a living countering with snap-downs,front-headlock counters to a quick throw-by, or a pancake to stop shots on your lead-leg( from a sugar-foot stance). From bottom, I would recommend an "unstoppable" power switch series, or an elevator (toe-lift)which almost always guarantees a reversal with back points. A Peterson or a Granby roll is also a good element of surpise move. From top, I recommend a "relentless" bar-arm to a tilt, a relentless wrist & half to a pin, a high turk (figure-four the near leg), or a fake leg ride to a near side cradle. This can also be setup from the optional start.Relentless, in this setting means, for example, if you secure a high-turk, you should be able to score a technical fall in short order from that point on,regardless of the score, simply because your opponent cannot stop your punishing attack from this position. In order to be physically strong enough for these particular types of moves, I suggest that you hang from a pull-up bar with the goal hang-time being at least 2 minutes, every other day. Most wrestlers find this challenging and most difficult to perform. This will develop "unbelievable" tensile-strength, much like a spider. The bottom line is that you must have quality nutrition in your body to perform at optimum levels. When all things are equal,(as in an opponent that is as good as you or better),the toughest wrestler is the one who still has a full tank, going into the third period.Check out this link to learn more about the "ultimate-training meal".(http://opp.sunrider.com/healthessentials/)

QUESTION: thank you for the help. The only thing left is for me to learn them. I've been considering going to J Robinson 14 day intensive camp and Granby System Wrestling camp. Are there anyother good wrestling camps that you recommend or something?
Answer
Brian,
Those are good choices for camps. I would also personally recommend my uncle's camps at Iowa State (Bobby Douglas / Cael Sanderson) Cyclone camps or Ken Chertow camps. I have been a clinician at both systems and can recommend them both very highly.
