Hi my name is Adam I have been wrestling for about 6 years but I still have the same problem I don't know how to meditate well enough of focus well do you have any tips to stay focused and meditate well before a match?
Answer
When meditating, you must be able to envision yourself winning this match / tournament. During weigh-ins, look at your opponents in your weight class. Imagine yourself wrestling him, taking him down to pin. Imagine your opponent on top of him working for a turn, your son should be able to gracefully defend it. The key goal here is for you to be able to play a live wrestling match in your head in first person perspective.
Condition yourself so that you have trained so hard that you know you will not take anything less than a gold or winning a dual meet. Be strict on yourself, you HAVE to win. Make it clear in your mind that you have worked harder than your opponent and you would be robbing yourself you lost to a slacker.
If you don't work well in calm situations you have to rely on anger and adrenaline. Downside to this method is that you will use alot of energy. But a good way to do this is to breathe in and out deep and fast 10 mins before a match. Increase your heart rate not by running but by sitting still. Imagine the feeling of drinking coffee and you are "hyper". Now imagine your opponent taking advantage of your girlfriend, mom or someone important to you. Imagine that if your opponent wins, your brother and sister will die. Just think of your unhappiest moment whether it be a lost of loved one or something and your opponent having something to contribute to it.
