Question
Hi my name is David and I got a question about high school wrestling. My freind is trying to make me try out for the team because I do brazillian jiu-jitsu. If you don't know what it is I describe it to other people that it's what you see at ufc fights they grab each other and try to make the other tap. So anyway iam good at it I usally place first or second in the tournaments but I explain to him almost every move i know except for the take downs is'nt allowed. So all i need is to know if iam right or am i wrong, and if you still dont know what jiu-jitsu is still thanks for reading my message.
Answer
well i assume your question is whether or not you should join the team. absolutely you should. with your experience with a combat sport i think it puts you in an advantaged position to learn and to catch on to different techniques. yes your experience with with submissions won't be directly useful because there are no submissions in wrestling. but with your knowledge of joints and leverage there are some techniques you will be exceptional at right from the start. the standing grappling will be awkward at first but you'll get use to it.
if you're having your doubts there was just a kid in Illinois(where i'm from), that took second in the state his first year of wrestling. he had many years of judo experience. i know, apples and oranges but still. you're experience with combat sports will be beneficial. good luck!
Getting back into the swing of things
