Getting back into the swing of things

Question
Hey Anthony. It's been a while since I've wrestled, three years, to be exact. I want to be ready for the next wrestling season, but I've been out of it a long time. What kind of steps should I take to prepare to wrestle competitively again? Also, are there any special tactics I can use to give my opponents a little fear of me? Thanks for your time!

Answer
Mike,
Three years is a very long time to be inactive in the sport of wrestling. Infact, you lose cardiovascular-aerobic(endurance) strength every 48 hours and and anaerobic (muscle) every 72 hours you don't work it. Wrestling is a high-intensity sport so your first step is to run to get warmed up the first week. Your second week add some circuit training (sprinting laps around the track and doing pushups during break, minimizing breaks is your goal). After that add HIIT weight lifting training, moving from one set to another with only a few rest and lifting like a mad man.

Your best bet, if your in high school, is to just join the team / club. If your out of high school and in college, try seeing if the coach allows walk-ons. If your out of high school or college, try finding a wrestling high school club so you can be the unpaid (possibly paid if your lucky) wrestling assistant coach and you can "work in" with these kids.

My brother stopped wrestling for over 2 years when he was in middle school. He just trained 2 months during the summer with me using technique just right before his freshman year in high school. Not only did he have a varsity spot, he also was ranked 4th in state.
