I need help. . .
Question
As you can tell, I am a girl. I've always wanted to wrestle, but never really made the effort to actually do it. I was hoping you could give me some advice on how to get started and eventually wrestle for my school's team?
Answer
Hi Olivia,
Thank you for the question. It is very admirable that you want to take on the challenge of wrestling for your school team. The first thing I would do is try and find the nearest female team in your area. Also, some gymnastics training would insure that you will be strong enough. Your age and weight class will have alot to do with your successes in this sport. The biggest thing to consider is the weight class that you wish to participate at. The most challenging thing that you will face, obviously, is a boy as strong or stronger than you at a particular weight class. You will have to be strong, conditioned, and flexible to wrestle. I would also find a coach or teamate that could show you some basic moves. In this sport you are only hampered by when you start the sport, and the level of experience that you participate at, since most wrestlers now start at a very young age. Take your time and become dedicated to hard work and you will develop a strong mental toughness which will help you endure the training ahead of you. You can also look on youtube for amateur wrestling moves. Study these daily and you will learn many right from your chair, provided that you study them long enough. Hopefully, this will get you started along your journey to wrestle for your team. Good luck and keep me posted on your progress.
