wrestling age
Question
Hello,
could you please let me know what is the age limit for Olympic wrestling ?
Answer
Hey Sanju,
Thanks for the question. As far as I know, there is no age limit - it is based on your ability to make a weight class and defeat your opponents to make the Olympic team. The youngest that I know of was my friend Jimmy Carr, from Erie, Pennsylvania that made the team at 16yrs old at 114.5lbs - though his skill level was well beyond his years. It is considered to be prime at age 30-34 on the other end, where old age begins to diminish your chances against younger opponents that are bigger, faster, stronger, and usually more conditioned as the later rounds of competition begin to take a toll on the elder athlete's body. At this level, there are no limitations if you can keep the demanding pace. But on the other end of the time-line, traditionally the odds are against you the older you are in the sport of wrestling. Hopefully, you have a better perspective of what it will take to make it happen. Good luck in your pursuit!
