Question
Hey there Lorena
Ive been thinking about starting to swim as a way to get fit and health for my final year at school. I have a few friends who are swimmers and they have told me a few good clubs to start swimming at. I was wondering, as im new to it all, do you have to be really good to join a club? and would they teach me how to become good? do you hav to be tall to be a good swimmer?
thanks alot for your time

Well, it depends upon the age group you would be joining and the club. If the swim club you are thinking about is mainly competitive, they may be focused on only the best swimmers. However, this isn't true for most swim clubs. For example, the club I coach for will accept swimmers of all abilities and work with you where you are. Also, if you are older, you will want to make sure you find a club with an active older age group -- such as a master's program.
As for your other question -- no, you don't have to be tall to be a good swimmer, although it does help. The ultimate swimmer's body is tall and lean. However, there are swimmers (good ones) of all body types. My best (age-group) swimmer, for example, is not at all the definitive body type, but she has put down some incredible times. It all depends on skill, natural ability, and willingness to work hard.
Hope this is helpful. Please feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. Good luck!
