learning

Question
hello, I am over 30 and never learned how to swim. I find it a problem to stay floating above the water.I usually sink. Is there any strategies or equipment I can use to learn how to float, or is that simply can not be done by some people because of the body mass, and if that true how can i find out, is there any books that you recommend?

Answer
Mike--
The ability to float is not a necessity to learning to swim.  There are a lot of people, because of their body types, who can't float.  If you have a lean body type it will be very difficult to float, but you can still learn to swim.  A person who has a higher amount of body fat will find it very easier to float.
Their really aren't any books that will help, but if you have access to one, a neoprene vest(used for snorkeling or scuba diving) would help a little.
Hope this helps,
George
