Question
QUESTION: what muscles should i train with weights to improve short distance swimming. (50-200 yds)

ANSWER: Steve--
You don't want to just train one specific muscle group to help with sprinting.  You always want to do a complete, well-rounded weight program.  What you need to remember is that you don't want to do a regimen that will make you bulky, always do full range of motion exercises and keep up with your stretching before and after lifting.

QUESTION: thanks, is there certain muscles i should focos on more than others?

Answer
Steve--
The most important muscles in swimming are your Lats, Triceps, Forearms and Abs for your upper body and your Thighs and calves for lower body.
But remember you need to train all groups of muscles when you lift otherwise your training isn't going to be as effective.  For example if you're doing lat exercises, do bicep exercises also to balance them out.  If you train abs, do lower back work to balance it out.  Quadriceps(thighs) and hamstrings to balance.
Keep your lifting well balanced and alternate the muscle groups you focus on.  If you work your Triceps hard one day, do your biceps light, the next time do Triceps light and biceps hard.
I hope this helps and let me know if you have other questions
