Spitz vs. Phelps

Interested in seeing a comparison of Mark Spitz vs. Mike Phelps in the various medal events.  How much faster is Phelps than Spitz or is he??

This is somewhat outside of my expertise since I haven't been watching too much of the olympics recently. But I just read an article from the New York Times that stated that Spritz and Phelps are very similar athletes however Phelps has surpassed Spritz in both distance and versatility. I'm assuming Phelps is the faster swimmer in certain events like the ones he has already won medals in.
