Getting tired in the middle of lap
Question
Hi,
I am a beginner in swimming, I took one session of adult swimming class. I am practicing for past 3 months almost everyday, still I cannot take the full lap of the pool in freestyle swimming, a) I will get tired in the middle of the lap and stop there or b) people who watch my swimming say I am kicking harder. I am trying my best in kicking harder. I am 36 year old woman trying hard to swim.
Answer
First off I would like to congratulate you in making swimming an integrated part of your life. The health benefits from it are fabulous.
Learning how to swim in your 30's is basically the same idea as it it when you are a child. Lot of practice. Unfortunately endurance still has to be built up in order for a lap to be accomplished.
If I was teaching you swimming I would be looking at a couple of different areas.
1) How are you kicking? Are your knees bent or straight?
2) how are you using your arms to pull? Are they straight or bent? Are you reaching far enough and are your hands/ fingers like a cup or a fork?
By answering these questions I can help you to refine your skills and endurance.
I apologize for how long it took to get back to you.
