Diving Advice
Question
QUESTION: I just started diving a little bit ago and are only 4 lessons in. I dive on a 1 meter.
I was wondering, do you have any starting advice?
and if not, can you help with these problems...
1.) I try to keep my eyes open but it's so hard!
2.) I need mental help with my front 1 1/2
3.) My front 1 1/2 stinks, I'm throwing as hard as I can though. (I'm under-rotating, and also I'm opening early or late)
ANSWER: Alexander--
My best advice is to work on making your approach and hurdle as strong and consistent as possible. That's where every dive starts.
Yes you should try to keep your eyes open and yes it is hard, but it will help later when you are doing multiple spinning or twisting dives and need to spot "landmarks" to know when to open your body during the dive.
It almost sounds like you are in a hurry to start your one and a half, relax and let the board help you. Take the time on the end of the board to get your arms all the way above your head and let the board help drive your hips up while you throw you arms down and forward. You want to feel like you are throwing over a barrel.
If you let the board help throw you, you'll be surprised how quick you spin.
Since you are only four lessons in, don't worry it does take time.
Good Luck,
George

QUESTION: About the board carrying me, when should I throw? I think I might be throwing too late.
Answer
If you have a coach/teacher ask them to call it(tell you when) for you.
They may have to yell a little early to allow for reaction time. It will come to you, like I said, your only a few lessons in. Those guys/gals you see diving at the Olympics have been doing this for 15 to 20 years.
