Postnasal drip after diving to bottom of pool
Question
Thank you for your time. I started swimming one year ago at an indoor pool. I have given myself most improved swimmer award! (Learning to breath every third stroke, flipping at end, etc.). I swim 2 miles three days a week and two days a week I do sprints, breaststroke, backstroke, kickboard, tread water, etc.
For several days an object had been on the bottom of the pool so I dove down to retrieve it because it was bugging me. The pressure hurt my head, but I successfully removed the object! Every since that incident I have had a watery postnasal drip and sneezing. It doesn't feel like a cold. I don't know how a cold virus could live in me anyway, as much garlic and apple cider vinegar I consume.
I am a 48 year old female in excellent health and I am disturbed by this because I haven't gone to feed my swimming addiction in two days now.(Don't want to contaminate anyone else in case it is a cold, as I always sit in the sauna afterward to remove the chlorine smell from my skin).
When I was in my 20's I became scuba dive certified but gave it up because I had difficulty pressurizing and once I finally descended I would get nose bleeds.
Do you think my diving to the bottom of the pool could cause this watery postnasal drip and sneezing? Since you are so experienced with diving I was hoping you might know the answer. If it could be the cause, is there anyway to avoid it in the future? Other than leaving the object down there to be retrieved by someone else?
Thank you,
Toni

Toni--
The pressure at the bottom of the pool may be what is causing the drip coming from your nose(sinuses). It is nothing to be concerned about, it's not a cold, don't worry about contaminating others. There is no reason to discontinue your swimming routine, just watch how deep you go. If something is on the bottom, it's probably better to let someone else get it.
