takeovers and staying down 4 fly
Question
Hi George:
Many thanks for your previous tips for my youngest. She has been trying diligently to adopt this good advice.
Three questions if I may:
1) Do you have any advice on timing the changeover in relays as she appears to almost go too early, which would be a disaster!
2) Is staying down on fly for 3-4 strokes faster and good practice?
3) Do you feel that she has incorporated your tips or are there some still to work on (or new ones!)
Many thanks in advance again. If her team improve a bit more they could go to the nationals for schools!:

Initial tip:
Fly: From what I see there is too much up and down movement, butterfly is faster if it is flatter. She needs to keep her hands just outside her shoulders on the outsweep and try to push her chin forward when she breathes, rather then lifting her head up
Free: Freestyle just needs to smooth out a little bit. A little more roll in her shoulders would help, she is pulling a little wide and deep with her arms, which causes a bounce in her stroke. Her arms can be deep but she needs to roll so her arms are under her body when she swims.
Answer
Hi--
Well start with the butterfly. It looks like she is keeping her head down better, but her hands are still going too wide at the start of her stroke. The other thing to work on, I'm seeing an extra stroke at both ends of the lap. It's faster to reach and drive into the wall with a stretch and strong kick than to take that stroke and get jammed on the turn and finish. As for the breathing, svery 3rd stroke is ok if she is able to maintain speed all the way to the end of the race, otherwise breath every other stroke is great it gives you more air for the end. If she can keep her head low, she can breath every stroke on occassion if needed. Her butterfly on the relay looked good, her hands were a little narrower.
The main thing i would suggest for the relay is to work on following the swimmer in with her hands and anticipating the touch a little more. Relay starts should be more of a moving start then a static(not moving)start. Just make sure they practice together so they know how the other person finishes to make timing easier, As it is now it looks like she is a little slow off the blocks.
Hope this helps,
let me know how things go
