Is it ok to vacuum the pool right after shocking it?
It is not recommended to vacuum the pool right after shocking it. Shocking the pool raises the chlorine levels to a high concentration to sanitize it. While chlorine is an oxidizing agent and helps kill bacteria, it also reacts with organic matter present in the pool water. This reaction can produce chloramines which create combined chlorine and is the cause of the strong chemical odor that is associated with pools. When the levels of combined chlorine are high, it can irritate the eyes and skin of swimmers. Vacuuming the pool after shocking it can stir up the settled dust and debris which may increase the levels of combined chlorine and cause discomfort to the swimmers. To be on the safer side, it is generally advisable to wait for 24-48 hours after shocking the pool before vacuuming it to ensure that the chlorine levels have stabilized and any chemical reactions have had enough time to take place.
