diving well size
Question
what would be the size of diving area would i need for a 3 meter spring board and a diving platform?
Answer
Hi Rio -
I am going to give you some websites to go to that will provide you with specific dimensions for a diving well. The short answer I can give you is anytime you install a 3 meter springboard, you need a 14 foot depth to insure that no one hits the bottom. The distance from the tip if the board to the 'slope' of the pool where it begins to go to the shallow end is also an important distance to know as well as the distances from the tip to the wall in front of the board and to the sides of the pool. A typical diving well with a 1 and a 3 meter board is about 30 to 40 feet square. You mentioned a platform but did not say the height so I can't answer that one. The websites can though.
Here are the websites to go to to get accurate measurements:
www.usadiving.org - click on 'Resources', then click on 'Rulebook'. Scroll down the page to 'Part III' and click on 'Appendix B'. This will give you the FINA chart and drawings for a diving well. FINA is the international governing body for aquatic sports, so the pool dimensions will be in meters.
www.duraflexinternational.com - This is website for the company that makes all competitive springboards and diving stands. Click on 'Installation' for more info on how to install stands. There is also other valuable info on diving equipment in general.
www.springboardsandmore.com - This company is the number one seller/installer of diving equipment in the US. It is run by a friend of mine named Steve Vollemecke. Contact him for expert advice. Mention my name and I am sure he will be of assistance to you. His website has all kinds of info on diving equipment.
I am hoping that you are not planning on installing this equipment in a home pool which will probably be too small for anything higher that a one meter board.
Good luck with your project.
