34 year old wants to learn to dive in the San Francisco Bay Area

Question
Hello there,

I'm 34 and am inspired by the Olympic diving I see on the telly nowadays. I'm especially interested in sprinboard diving.

Any pointers to places in the San Francisco Bay Area that can teach diving to a novice? I would especially be interested in schools that have teams that participate in local programs.

Thanks much!

Raoul

Answer
Raoul - The part of the S.F. Bay Area that you are going to find the most diving for adults is in Santa Clara County.

Recreational/competitive diving for adults is called Masters Diving and the largest group is found at Stanford University. Go to:

www.mastersdiving.com. On the right hand side of the page, click on
"E-Mail Addresses" and look for a guy named Alex Lapidus. He is a member of Stanford Masters Diving and is also a national board member for USA Masters Diving. He can fill you in on what you need to do. I would find out when they practice and go there to watch and see if it is something you would want to do.

You should also inquire with the Santa Clara Divers. They practice at a pool in the Central Park of the City of Santa Clara which is off of Homestead Rd. Go to www.santaclaradiving.com.

Other websites about diving are:

www.usadiving.org -  Navigate your way to "Find A Club"
www.flipnrip.com  -  Website for divers
www.usadiver.com -   Articles about diving

Good luck with your pursuit of this sport.
