diving biography
Question
QUESTION: I saw in one of the last questions post something about a diving biography. what makes up a diving biography?
ANSWER: Hayden -
Diving biographies are written by high school age divers (juniors and seniors) who want to get the attention of college coaches. Some divers hire recruiting agencies to do this. There are also on line forms that college athletic departments have to fill out and then send to the coach.
Biographies are made up of the following info:
1. Graduation date
2. Academic accomplishments: GPA and SAT or ACT scores.
3. Current US Diving or AAU club team and coach.Number of years diving with them.
4. The divers lists of optional dives (6)on 1 & 3 meter and also platform if they compete at that height.
5. Placings at club meets like regionals, zones and nationals.Coaches use www.divemeets.com to look up results of age group club meets.
6. High school experience. All American status.Placings at state championships.
7. List of goal dives or meets to qualify for.
8. Coaches also like to receive video tapes or DVD's of the meets you have been in.
You should go on line to some colleges in your area that have diving teams and see if they have an on line biography form to fill out and then you will get a better idea on what they are made up of.
Good luck with your search.

QUESTION: I am a sophomore in high school who dives and I would like more colleges notice me. I have sent e-mails and questionnaire forms but I am not sure if they have looked at it. What else is there to do to get colleges to know I am a competitive diver and is looking for a team in the future?

The reason you have not heard back from any college coach is because they cannot contact you until you become a junior in high school.Starting next September, they can send you a letter about their program but cannot talk to you on the phone or in person until you are senior. You will officially become a senior on July 1st of 2010. At that time, they can call you on the phone, invite you on a recruiting trip or make a trip to your home to meet you and your parents. In the meantime, make sure you keep a good record of your diving accomplishments. As I mentioned in a previous answer, college coaches look up results on divemeets.com for a divers scores and placements at USA diving and AAU meets held primarily in the spring and summer. Go to www.usadiving.com for a list of meets in your area. What you do in club diving this summer and the summer of 2010 will get the attention of college coaches.
