How much shock do you use in a 1700 gallon pool?

To shock a 1700-gallon pool, you will typically need to use about 16 ounces of pool shock (calcium hypochlorite). Be sure to follow the directions on the shock package carefully.

Shocking a pool consists of adding a dose of concentrated chlorine (also called shock) directly to the pool water to rapidly elevate the chlorine levels and sanitise the pool. This eliminates heavy swimmer loads, suntan lotions and other water contaminants. Shocking a pool should be done periodically to effectively clean the pool and maintain crystal clear water.
