diving in charlotte, nc
Question
tom:
i can't seem to find any info on springboard or platform diving facilities in charlotte, nc -- e.g., colleges perhaps?
there is an aquatics center with a 1-meter and three-meter board, but that seems to be all i can find.
does anybody have a full diving facility in or around the city and are there lessons to be had or clubs to join?
thanks much,
paul

You're going to have to travel a short distance north to the town of Huntersville (15 miles) to find a diving program. The Carolina Diving Academy practices out of the Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatic Center. They have an excellent facility (best in N.C.)and a good Head Coach, Aaron Hintz. You can find contact info by going to www.usadiving.org, click on Clubs and then Find A Club. Enter North Carolina and a list of teams will come up.There you will find a link to the teams website.
This pool will be hosting a big meet in a few weeks, the USA Diving Region 3 Championships. Divers and teams from all over the south will be there for the first step in qualifying for nationals.Go to www.divemeets.com, click on Upcoming Meets and scroll down to the meet info on June 18-20. This will be an excellent opportunity to find out about diving meets and competitions. You could also find out at this meet if there is a program closer to where you live but I would go to the Huntersville one as it has the most experienced staff. At the divemeets website, you can also click on Lists of Divers, Teams and Coaches, click on Teams and a huge list will come up of programs from all over the world. Look under AAU Diving, NCAA Diving and also USA Diving and keep scrolling down looking at the states column and then click on teams in NC.
Other diving websites:
www.diving.about.com - Site that explains the sport
www.aaudiving.org - Other national governing body
www.flipnrip.com - Site for diving families.
Hope all this helps. Good luck in your search.
