Reverse troubles
Question
I'm a level 9/10 male gymnast age 15 who is also working towards diving competition. I have worked with an excellent diving coach in my area but am still unable to complete a reverse dive. My gymnastics coach has no interest in helping me accomplish a reverse due to the conflict of both sports. I'm in central California and am willing to travel on the weekends to someone who can help me make this dive. From where we live it's about equal distance to the Santa Clara/San Jose area, Stockton, Sacramento, Bay Area, or the upper Southern California area. Can you recommend a coach for private lessons who has the facility, ability and interest to help me accomplish a reverse dive.

I do not know who your diving coach is in the Central Valley but if it is not the coach at Fresno State, Taryn Patrick, you should try her. They just built a brand new aquatic facility that will have great diving equipment for you to learn on if she will take a non student. Just look up the athletic departments website for her contact info.
If she is you coach and you want to travel to a private coach, try the Santa Clara Divers located at the International Swim center. Mark Butcher is the head coach and he or an assistant can help you get reverses. They have a trampoline and a dry board with a spotting rig/rope-pulley-harness set up that will for sure get you to do the dives you need.Just go to www.usadiving.org, click on Clubs and then find a club. Enter CA and a list of teams will come up. His contact info will be there as well as other programs to try in the places you mentioned that you are willing to travel.
Reverses are not that hard especially for someone with your acrobatic ability. You first have to be able to do it in your head, then on a tramp, then a dry board and then the water. Good luck and I hope all this helps.
