Finding a local diving club
Question
Dear Tom Trapp: We live in the Lake Forest, IL area and are
looking for a diving club for our 10 year old son. He has
been taking instruction at the local Park District, but has
high interest and we want to foster that. We have tried to
find clubs, but have been unable to find one within 30 miles
of our area. Thanks very much, Mike

Mike -
I looked on Google maps to see where your city is. I then went to
www.usadiving.org, clicked on Clubs and then Find A Club. I entered IL and found several teams. The one that looked closest to you was Windy City Diving in Deerfield. They use a high school pool and the pool at the University of Chicago IL. I do not know how far these pools are from you but Deerfield was only 10 miles.
Another source of finding a program is to go to www.divemeets.com.
At the top of the home page, click on Lists of Divers, Teams and Coaches. Then click on Teams. A huge list of teams will come up from all over the world. The first list to look on is "AAU" for Amateur Athletic Union. Scroll down the list until you come to IL in the third column. Click on Team names from IL to get location and contact info. Also at this page, scroll way down to USA Diving Clubs and do the same thing.
I would try www.windycitydiving.com first and see if their pools are close enough for you to travel to.
Good luck in your search. I am sure you will find something.
