Additional training
Question
My daughter is on the HS Varsity swim/dive team and during off season continues to train 1 day per week with her coach, but is looking for more to do in the off season. We live on Long Island in Suffolk county. She was doing gymnastics - tumbling and trampoline work, but the gym that had one on one lessons closed. Not sure if it is a good idea for her to train with another dive team or not. Please advise.

I highly recommend additional training especially if your daughter is interested in college diving. Since high school is just one meter, that is not enough competitive experience to make a college team or even be considered for a scholarship. I would suggest that she find a club team that has 3 meters and platforms and start training with them 3 days per week and keep diving with her high school coach the one day per week for a total of 4 workouts. I know that there is a major aquatic facility on Long Island with a club team.
Go to www.usadiving.org. Click on clubs and then Find A Club. Enter NY and a list of teams will come up. Also try www.divemeets.com. Click on Lists of Divers, Teams and Coaches. Select Teams and a huge list will come up. Look under AAU Diving and scroll down to teams from NY. Click on the teams name for contact info.
I also suggest that her high school coach go to the workouts with the club you choose. That way the two coaches can interact and in the the end it will be a better situation for your daughter.
Good luck in your search. I am sure you will find something that works for all involved.
