Lost dives - Fear of diving
Question
Have you ever worked with a diver that all of a sudden just couldn't do dives that they had been able to do previously? Any suggestions on how to overcome this mental block to regain the ability to do these dives? Can still do some dives but having trouble primarily with inward and back dives. Just can't go!
Answer
The problems you or your diver are going through are common at any level of diving. I have seen an accomplished diver lose a dive in the warm up of a national championship!
I think I can help you better if you ask a follow up question with the following information:
1. Are you a coach or are you the person going through the difficulty?
2. What is the age, gender and ability level of the diver? Are they a beginner, novice, high school or advanced and how long have they been diving?
3. I need more info on they exact dives they cannot do and from what height are they trying to do them from:1 meter, 3 meter or platform.Telling me the dive number and letter would be the best way to convey this info.
4. Do you have access to dry land equipment like a trampoline or dry board with over head rig?
Any other information you can provide will help allow me give you the best answer. In the meantime, I will leave you with this thought:
