Question
QUESTION: Hi Tom as I am new to the core subjects for Ncaa and my daughter in the future would like to dive and study at uni in the USA in 2013. We are in Australia.
As I understand she needs 16 core subjects. Maths english science history or geography.
From grade 9 and grade 10 my daughter has these covered with A and B average. Now in grade 11 we have just realised that she has only Maths,English, Biology,Accounting and Drama. Looking on Ncaa it doesnt appear that accounting or drama will go toward her core subject for part of this year. What can you recommend us to do to get that 4th core subject sorted for this year.Eg is it better for her to get into a class change now to geography or history for the rest of this year? Then to make sure she has all 4 core subjects for her last year in 2012.
Kind Regards
Susie

I am going to suggest that you ask this question from another person at the All Experts website. I do not feel that I can answer this question correctly. My expertise is with the sport itself rather than the field of academics. An example is a question about what type of dives your daughter needs to make a college diving team as opposed to how to get into a school.
Go back to allexperts.com and on the home page, click on Education. Then click on College Admissions Process. Then the link that says Help with College Applications. I know she is not applying yet but these experts could have an answer for you. Also at Education, click on College Admissions: U.S.. Then click on College Exams (SAT's). These two people could also help you.
When you ask them the same question, make sure you tell them she is an athlete trying to be accepted to an NCAA Division I level school and wants to be a member of a women's swimming team. Here in the states, diving is a swimming event for college teams.
Also try this website: www.ncsasports.org. They offer advice on how to get accepted to a college on an athletic scholarship. At the home page, scroll down to the bottom and click on College Athletic Scholarships, then look for the link NCAA Eligibility Center. They may have some answers for you.
I am sorry I cannot help you with this question but I am sure you can find someone who will.

Now this is a question that I am much better suited at answering. Here is a list of dives on springboard that college women are competing. Divers in NCAA Division I do only six optional dives on either board. There are no compulsory (voluntary) dives but you can use a lower degree of difficulty dive if you want. I am only listing the harder optional dives.
1 meter optionals:
104B / 105C / 105B
203C / 203B / 203A
303C / 303B / 305C(rarely used)
403C / 403B / 404C
5132D / 5134D / 5223D / 5233D / 5225D / 5331D / 5231D / 5333D
3 meter optionals:
105C / 105B / 107C / 107B
203A / 205C / 205B
303B / 305C / 305B
403B / 404C / 405C / 405B
5132D / 5134D / 5136D / 5233D / 5235D / 5333D / 5335D / 5152D / 5353D(rarely used)
Platform optionals are basically what you see above with the addition of armstand dives. Divers can use any platform height but the best ones just dive on 10 meter.
I would suggest that you go to this website: www.divemeets.com. This is the number one website for diving meets in the USA. Have your daughter look up college meets from last season to see what dives are being done and the scores divers are getting. Click on Past Meets, then scroll down to college meets held last season (October 2010 to March 2011). Click on meets that are conference championships (like the Pac 10, Big 12, ACC, SEC or Big 10)then pick an event result to click on. When the results come up, click on any divers total score. When that page comes up, click on Printable Dive Sheet. This will show the dives used and scores received. Also click on Zone Meets which are held to qualify for the National Championships.
Use these websites and register to get noticed by college diving coaches for recruiting:
www.diverstocollege.com and www.berecruited.com.
She should start video taping her meets to post on these websites or on YouTube. Coaches want to see dives she does in meets and not so much how she does them in practice.
Hope all this helps. Good luck.
