Beginning Competitive Diving

Our almost 12 year old daughter is interested in competitive diving.  She has been a very successful swimmer and synchronized swimmer, so I believe she has some good prerequisite skills. We live in Cary,NC, so would need a place to train in this area. I haven't seen anything online.  Any help would be appreciated.

Two very strong age group programs in the Triangle area are found at Duke and UNC so you are going to have to drive up that way.I do not think the coach at N.C. State has a junior team on campus because she and her husband, the coach at Duke, run the club program in Durham.

Just go to www.usadiving.org, click on Clubs and then Find A Club. Enter NC and a list of teams will come up. Look for American School for Diving at Duke and Tar Heel Diving at UNC. Their contact info will be there.

I would suggest taking a trip to these schools on the same day and check out both programs to see which one she likes. They are only 7 miles apart. Ask to watch a practice session consisting of girls her age so she can get an idea of what to expect.

The pool at Duke is located right next to Cameron Indoor Arena and the facility at UNC is right next to the Dean Dome so they will be easy to find.
